Ian Machado Garry still salty about not getting UFC 315 title shot

Welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry (15-1) suffered the first loss of his career to Shavkat Rakhmonov (19-0) in his last outing at UFC 310 in December. The match between the two was billed as a title eliminator bout.

When an injury kept Rakhmonov from facing champion Belal Muhammad, the fight promotion opted to pit the champion against No. 5 ranked Jack Della Maddalena (17-2). Garry thought he should have gotten the call to fight for the title despite coming off a loss and has been vocal about it.

"I think the word 'withdrew' is kind of the word that bugs me on that because I don't believe Shavkat withdrew due to the choice of not wanting to fight for a title. From what I'm hearing is more an injury, an injury that I absolutely believe he sustained in the fight with me due to the amount of heel kicks I put to his knee," Machado Garry said on the Ariel Helwani Show.

"We're fighting for the No. 1 contender spot, so the guy who wins the fight, and rightly so, I still believe he won the fight to this day, he gets the shot. But if he's not available, it makes logical sense to go to me, not a guy who has been out a year."

Garry headlines UFC on ESPN 66 on April 26 at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City against Carlos Prates.
