Ian Machado Garry teases that he has finally got the call for Islam Makhachev fight

Ian Machado Garry’s teasing build-up for his next fight announcement seems to be coming to a head with his latest social media post.

For weeks, Garry has been sharing cryptic photos and videos in which he awaits a phone call. And this afternoon, he has posted a video of a phone ringing, which he very quickly answers after leaping over the couch.

The fight that Garry has been pushing for is a title bout with Islam Makhachev. It is the natural first defense for the Russian, who has only once tasted defeat in his entire MMA career just like his Dubliner rival.

It has been months since Ian Machado Garry began pushing for the latest iteration in Ireland’s lengthy feud with Dagestan against Islam Makhachev. Things have not gone well for his countrymen historically, with Conor McGregor and Paul Hughes losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Usman Nurmagomedov.

Now, Garry appears to be getting his chance at Makhachev, sharing a video with the caption “Ring ring, see you soon.” Reports as recently as yesterday from Ariel Helwani indicate that UFC 330 in Philadelphia is the event where that fight could land.

There are large Irish and Brazilian populations in the Northeast, which would mean big support for Garry as he gets his chance at gold. Meanwhile, Makhachev is one of the biggest stars in the sport and just won his belt at Madison Square Garden when he dominated Jack Della Maddalena.
