Next month, at the UFC Freedom 250 card, the interim champ Justin Gaethje will challenge the champ Ilia Topuria. Ahead of the fight, Aleksandre Topuria just handed the combat sports world the most detailed public breakdown of Gaethje’s striking mechanics. And the level of specificity suggests this analysis has been lived in rather than assembled for a media appearance.

As per Aleksandre, Gaethje shows what he is going to do with his feet. When his leg goes out, he will kick. When he stands straight, he will punch. Topuria and his team have watched this many times, which gives them a lot of information ahead of the fight. And as per the younger Topuria, Gaethje swings big, there is a small opening, and he gets vulnerable.

“The moment he throws, that’s when he’s most open to counters because Gaethje doesn’t know how to throw clean shots. He doesn’t throw clean like you do. He swings with everything, all his power. That’s exactly when Gaethje is at his most vulnerable,” Aleksandre said.

Topuria goes into the White House card with a brother who has broken Gaethje down frame by frame. Whether that preparation survives contact with the full extension swing Aleksandre described is what June 14 will answer.

Topuria just reframed the entire Gaethje fight with a single statement. ‘El Matador’ has carried family pressure throughout his career while building a stable life. Now he says that pressure is gone. For the first time, he will enter the Octagon without his life depending on the result.

“Thank God for giving me the stability where neither I nor my children will ever lack anything… So now you’re going to see a different Ilia. You’re going to see El Matador, not at 100% but at 200%, someone who truly enjoys the art. If I was dangerous before, now I’m extremely dangerous,” Topuria said.
