Makhachev also evaluated Carlos Prates, Michael Morales and Shavkat Rakhmonov, placing all three contenders on approximately the same level.

As MMA Fighting reported, Makhachev cited Prates’ punching power, Morales’ size and well-rounded skills, and Rakhmonov’s overall ability. He was less complimentary of former Bellator champion Yaroslav Amosov, questioning how dangerous Amosov would be if an opponent neutralized his wrestling.

Garry presented the champion with a more difficult test. The official UFC statistics show that their five-round fight reached the judges, with Makhachev earning scores of 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47.

What Comes Next for Makhachev and Garry?

Makhachev has said he wants to extend his winning streak to at least 20 before retiring. He has also expressed interest in defending the championship again before Ramadan begins in February 2027, although the UFC has not officially announced his next opponent.
