Jake Ellenberger left Josh Koscheck foaming at the mouth

On February 28, 2015, Jake Ellenberger went to war with Josh Koscheck at UFC 184, inside the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, USA.

In a terrifying display, ‘The Juggernaut’ locked in a brutal North-South choke that forced his rival to tap.

When asked, during an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, whether that was the scariest submission in UFC history, Ellenberger answered: “Yeah, I believe so.

“In fighting, there’s a lot of chess, you put guys in check, they adjust, especially with chokes.

“One of the guys I trained with a lot over the years was Frank Mir, and he would talk a lot about that. Even translating it to real-life scenarios, you can break someone’s arm, break a wrist, break a joint, and they can keep fighting, but when you choke somebody out, the fight is over, and that’s the checkmate.

“It’s always fun playing chess. With that one, I knew there was no way he was getting out of that. It was only a matter of time.

“That was a fun one. He fought it well. He rolled to his back, which was the right escape. I remember bouncing off my head, and it hurt, but it wasn’t enough to get me to release. It was checkmate right there.”
