After her most recent win this past month over Maria Maldonado at Combate Global, now 4-0, Women’s atomweight prospect Janet Garcia is making her call out for a big shake-up in the UFC: The inclusion of an Atomweight division.

Janet Garcia Wants Atomweight Class in UFC

When asked about the UFC’s recent push towards Mexico and its opening of UFC BJJ, the American Kickboxing Academy product stated that if there were ever a chance for her to fight underneath the banner, it would (most likely) have to be at her original weight class.

“The most I walk around is like maybe like 120, 121 you know?,” Janet Garcia said. “So it’s not like I’m going to gain all this muscle… I’m not gonna say never, right? Maybe for the right opponent, I would.”

Janet Garcia Hopeful That UFC Expands to Atomweight

With the last weight class of women’s flyweight being added in 2017, the UFC is now approaching ten years since a weight class was added to the company’s growing roster of competitors. According to Janet Garcia, she believes the division has more then the capability of making a splash.

“I wish they could do it. I mean the talents there right? As you can see, my fight, like the other fighters at 105, is one where we give it everything. So if that were to happen, of course I would love to do that.”

With stars such as Seika Izawa in Rizin and Elisandra Ferreira for Invicta, Garcia’s point of the talent pool being sufficient at 105 stands with ever-growing merit by the day. It now seems the only question that remains is when the major organizations in MMA, such as the UFC & PFL, begin to adopt these weight classes.
