UFC featherweight contender Jean Silva is hoping for another big win this Saturday to help pay for his wedding.
This coming Saturday, popular featherweight contender Jean Silva headlines his first event when he takes on Diego Lopes in the Noche UFC main event.
And ahead of their clash in San Antonio, Texas, Silva and Lopes have been going back and forth with each other and nearly clashed when they crossed paths at the fighter hotel this week.
With a win over Lopes, ‘Lord’ Silva will likely secure himself a shot at the 145lb title in his next fight, having already faced off with Alexander Volkanovski previously.
In the 28-year-old’s last fight at UFC 314, he scored an utterly brutal knockout over Bryce Mitchell, putting a stamp on their short-lived rivalry.
And following his win, he made a bizarre plea for UFC boss Dana White to be the best man at his wedding and subsequently requested for the boss to fund the occasion.
Silva went on to claim that White agreed to fund his wedding and also pay for the appearance of Belo, a Brazilian singer who Silva’s soon to be wife is extremely fond of.
And with the wedding being planned for the next few months, ahead of his Noche UFC fight, Silva has revealed that he plans to get married at the UFC Performance Institute in Vegas.
“Dana is the Godfather who will sponsor our wedding, he is going to bring the singer, Belo, that’s my wife’s favorite singer to sing,” Silva told Fight Week Focus.
“We’re not just going to have the wedding in Vegas just because it’s Vegas, there’s history for us in Vegas. There was Contender Series, there was my first fight, that’s where I’m going to become world champion.
“I want to get married at the UFC PI. We’re gonna get married there, it’s gonna be a great thing… I can envision my wife coming into the wedding wearing my belt,” Silva continued.
Having already scored five impressive wins in a row, the Brazilian will likely secure a title fight with a win over Lopes.
However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that he will be next to fight for the title. Not long ago, British contender Lerone Murphy scored a blockbuster knockout, likely securing himself the next title shot.
And following his win, Volkanovski declared him as the next title challenger. Despite that, Silva believes nothing is set in stone and he could cause a stir on Saturday night.
“Who is in the right position to be able to accept the challenge and capitalize on it? I don’t care if the company thinks Lerone Murphy is the one that deserves a title shot first, so be it.
“But when I break Diego Lopes, and I get my title shot, no one is gonna be able to deny me that, it doesn’t matter if I go first or second.”
