There's much to say about Jon Jones' memorable career inside the octagon, and Joe Rogan has highlighted the legend's inability to escape controversy throughout his years in the spotlight.
'Bones' decided to hang up the gloves earlier this month, going down as one of the greatest fighters in mixed martial arts history. His peers had much to say regarding his retirement, and Joe Rogan is the latest.
During a recent episode of his podcast, Rogan weighed in on Jon Jones' retirement.
"Jon Jones said he needed six months to prepare for [Tom] Aspinall if he's going to fight Aspinall," Rogan said. "So, they were trying to make a deal and then he decided to retire."
"But it's six months because he's not training, like, at all. He just doesn't train. In between fights, he just doesn't train."
Rogan continued.
"I think Jon is just so f------ talented that he could pull that off. That's the outlier. It's like, he was just so good. He was so good. He could do it. He could party and still f--- guys up."
From his time at the pinnacle of the sport, Jon Jones has received backlash for his often wild moments outside of the cage.
While many didn't like his actions away from the sport, Joe Rogan believes it helped Jones become the fighter he was.
"He liked riding that lightning. I think that's one of the things that made him so good, too, because he was so wild."
"He was just a wild dude. He just genuinely didn't give a f--- and really had this ultimate confidence. And [he was] so skillful and so smart."
"But eventually, [more drug usage], one more drink, one more [this], one more [that], and then your bodies just not what it used to be."
