UFC legend insists he can still fight despite hip issues and missed comeback opportunity
Joe Rogan has shared how he assisted Jon Jones behind the scenes as the former UFC champion prepared to push back against Dana White’s claim that he is effectively retired.
Jones had been targeting a return, but those plans did not materialise, with the UFC opting not to include him on the White House card in June. White later stated that a comeback was “not remotely” being considered, pointing to the condition of Jones’ hip.
Jones’ situation became more complex after a clip surfaced in which he discussed his arthritis diagnosis — something he had not intended to make public.
As he looked to address the narrative, Jones revealed that he had already taken steps to manage the issue, including undergoing stem cell treatment.
Rogan confirmed on the JRE MMA Show #176 that he played a direct role in that process.
“He doesn’t want to be done,” Rogan said. “I know he got stem cells on his hip — I helped him get it. He’s talked about it himself. He got it at Ways2Well, and he’s feeling a lot better.”
Rogan acknowledged that Jones is dealing with arthritis but insisted it is not career-ending. “It bothers him, but not enough that he can’t fight,” he added.
Despite Jones’ efforts to prove he can still compete, the UFC’s position appears unchanged.
The former champion even called for his release on social media, arguing that while his hip issue is painful, it does not prevent him from returning to the Octagon.
That request is unlikely to be granted, though it has drawn support from figures outside the promotion. Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian publicly backed Jones, suggesting the UFC should allow him to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Meanwhile, potential opponents continue to circle. Alex Pereira has expressed confidence that a fight with Jones could still happen in the future, believing the former champion is not finished with the sport.
For now, however, uncertainty remains, with Jones determined to return, but the UFC showing little sign of changing its stance.
