Joe Rogan set new rule on interviewing fighters after bizarre phantom submission claim

Veteran UFC caller Joe Rogan has seen it all inside the cage during his run with the promotion, however, a bizarre fight-ending sequence led to him setting a new rule on his role.

Calling the action with the Dana White-led outfit since his debut event back in 2002, veteran color-commentator Joe Rogan has served as a staple in the broadcast booth in the years since.

And on hand to call the action for a ton of bouts involving the who’s who of the sport, Rogan has shown his rather emotional side post-fight in the Octagon, too.

But off the back of an infamous post-fight probe, the veteran set a new rule on how he would deal with fighters after a certain defeat.

Alistair Overeem claim led Joe Rogan to new rule change on interviewing fighters

Featuring in the booth alongside former play-by-play lead Mike Goldberg, Rogan was on hand as a host of eye-catching fights played out at UFC 203.

Seeing the debut of CM Punk in a loss to Mickey Gall on this day in 2016, in the event’s headliner, Stipe Miocic returned to his native Ohio to put his belt on the line against Alistair Overeem.

Surviving both a knockdown and sizable guillotine scare straight after, Miocic would rally in the first round to score his own knockout win.

Afterwards, however, Overeem spoke with Rogan about the outcome of the clash, claiming he was sure Miocic had actually submitted during the guillotine choke attempt, which Rogan argued against.

Soon thereafter, Rogan admitted he had made a mistake by interviewing Overeem straight after his knockout loss, and confirmed he would no longer interview fighters in the Octagon after a stoppage via strikes in the future.

Just a year later, Rogan would go back on his rule change, resulting in another emotional interview after a devastating stoppage loss.

Joe Rogan brought emotions from Daniel Cormier after brutal KO loss

On hand to call the action once more a year later at UFC 214, Rogan watched on as fellow color-commentator suffered a huge loss to Jon Jones in their title rematch.

Hit with a brutal high-kick in the third round of his bad-blooded re-run with Jones, Cormier was stopped with a barrage of ground strikes.

But afterwards, the Lafayette wrestler spoke with Rogan despite his defeat, where he succumbed to an emotional outburst.
