Joe Rogan thinks Khamzat Chimaev could hold his own in the UFC’s light heavyweight division.
The current middleweight champion began his career at welterweight before moving up to compete at 185 pounds.
Recently, he has set his sights on a fight against Alex Pereira, who is widely regarded as the top fighter in the 205-pound division.
After defeating Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320, Pereira was called out by Chimaev, sparking an ongoing exchange between the two fighters on social media about a potential matchup.
Joe Rogan recognises that moving from middleweight to light heavyweight is a significant jump.
But he still thinks Chimaev has what it takes to compete at 205lb, as long as he puts in the time to build up his body properly.
The UFC commentator said on his podcast: ”I think he can do it. I think he can do it if he takes time and puts weight on.
“Because he is tall, and also the thing is these gaps in wrestling, these gaps in grappling, when the guy’s a really good grappler, and then you are taking on Dricus [du Plessis], who is really a striker.
“He is a good grappler, a good jiu-jitsu guy, but there are levels.
“The kind of guy like Khamzat, like man, you gotta be a f—ing Olympic level wrestler to scrap with that guy.”
Donald Trump’s recent push for a stacked title line-up at the UFC White House event did not get much traction with Rogan, who brushed off the plan as over the top.
According to the popular podcaster, the event would be a ‘travesty’ without the participation of a certain MMA legend.
“If they don’t do Jon Jones at the White House, I think it would be a travesty,” Rogan stated.
“They need to do that. Come on!
“Dana’s like, ‘You can’t count on him.’ You can f—- count on him. Come on, stop.
“At the White House? Come on,” he concluded.
