Jon Jones has broken his silence on the death of his brother, former NFL star and Super Bowl champion, Arthur Jones, who passed away on October 3rd at the age of 39.
After taking time to grieve, Jones issued a tribute to his older brother, who was known for his support in the UFC champion’s corners and his own successful career as an NFL defensive lineman. Arthur Jones was a key member of the Baltimore Ravens during their 2013 Super Bowl victory. The cause of his death remains officially unrevealed. In his heartfelt statement, Jon Jones honored his brother.
“In Loving Memory of Arthur W. Jones lll Arthur was not just a Super Bowl champion but a father, spouse, son, brother, everyone’s best friend, a gentle giant whose kindness and generosity knew no bounds. He had a love for the outdoors. Whether it was duck hunting, fishing, or riding four wheelers with his family, he brought pure joy, warmth and laughter to every moment spent around him. Arthur’s generosity extended far beyond his friends and family.
“He was always involved in local charities and gave back to the students and the community with an open heart. His legacy inspires me every day. Our dad Arthur Jones Jr, me, Chandler, Arthur Jones IV, and the rest of the family are committed to moving forward striving to be the best versions of ourselves, just as he would have wanted. King Arthur will truly be missed, he’s gone way too soon, but his spirit will live on in our hearts forever. Rest easy, big bro, you deserve it, you did amazing,” Jones said
Jones’ future in MMA has naturally been complicated by this incident. He has spoken about his desire to appear on the UFC White House card next June. So much so that he reversed his decision to retire after vacating the heavyweight title by reentering the testing pool. While there is still time left for Jones to prove to Dana White that he can appear on the card, his setback may make Jones re-evaluate things.
