Jon Jones calls it quits following UFC White House snub

Jon Jones has once again walked away from the sport after failing to secure a place on the White House card this summer.

The former two-weight world champion, often cited as one of the greatest fighters ever, has held UFC titles at both heavyweight and light-heavyweight. His only defeat came via a questionable disqualification, but he remains unbeaten in the eyes of many after taking on legends across different eras.

Jones pushed hard to headline the UFC’s event at the White House on 14 June, but ran into resistance from Dana White throughout. He’s now said that his retirement is final, having been unable to reach an agreement.

Last summer, Jon Jones made headlines when he decided to retire and vacate the undisputed heavyweight title, passing it to Tom Aspinall without a fight. His final appearance in the octagon was in November 2024 at UFC 309, where he knocked out divisional great Stipe Miocic.

But that retirement didn’t stick for long. News of the upcoming UFC White House card had him back in training quickly, even bringing in Olympic gold medallist Gable Steveson as he pushed to be part of the historic event.

Dana White was clear from early on that Jones wouldn’t be included, and when the card was officially announced last month, his absence stood out. Speaking to Red Corner MMA, Jones confirmed that he’s stepping away from fighting and focusing on new business ventures.

“My gloves are hung up, I’m chilling these days,” he said when asked about a return. “You got business, Jon Jones – no more fighter Jon Jones… The businessman, you know what I’m sayin’?”
