Jon Jones Confirms Discussions With UFC Top Brass About Comeback

There has been so much happening around Jon Jones in recent times. He personally made the public release request after Dana White dismissed concerns about his physical condition during the press conference. Now, Jones has shifted the entire narrative around his UFC future with one social media post. And the timing could not have been more deliberate.

At the Dirty Boxing Championship, Jones confirmed that a conversation with Hunter Campbell had happened. And that his body is starting to respond to the treatment he underwent, specifically to prepare for competition.

The stem cell timing detail is the most significant piece of the update. Jones said he got the treatment right before the White House card was being planned, which is not what the UFC said about his hip injury.

“We had that conversation tonight. I took a stem cell right before the White House card was curated. I’m starting to feel the effects, I feel really good physically. Let’s not put any pressure on anything. I’m gonna focus on coaching Gable right now, but who knows what the future holds,” Jones said.

The release request appears to be off the table, or at least paused. The Campbell conversation suggests both sides found enough common ground to keep talking. And Jones’s feeling good physically after stem cell treatment removes any doubt about his health.

Jon Jones Contradicts His Earlier Retirement Statement

Jones has said he was done before, and the sport has heard him talk about retirement more than once. But those decisions did not last. In fact, some of those moments felt even more final than this one does now. With talks still ongoing about his UFC future, this new retirement talk does not feel like the end for Jones just yet.

Whether that remains true when the right offer arrives is the question his recent history makes genuinely impossible to answer with confidence. The Jon Jones situation just became considerably more interesting than ever.
