Jon Jones wants to return at the White House in 2026 even if it means taking a backwards step.

Following his retirement earlier this year, the consensus greatest of all time has been inspired to make a return by two key elements.

Jones is clearly motivated by the challenge that Alex Pereira presents, viewing a clash with the current UFC light heavyweight champion as a matchup that will add to his legacy.

‘Bones’ was also immediately interested in fighting at the UFC’s one-off event at the White House in 2026.

After Jones apologized to Dana White for how negotiations played out earlier this year, he recently claimed that he’d go one step further to try and secure his spot on the card.

Who do you want to see Jon Jones fight in his comeback

Jon Jones would accept Alex Pereira fight even if it isn’t for a title or the main event

Jon Jones isn’t the only UFC star who is looking to secure himself a prominent spot on the UFC’s event at the White House next June.

It seems likely that Conor McGregor, who recently returned to social media, would headline the event due to his status as the biggest star in the history of the sport.

Do you believe Conor McGregor will make his UFC return at the White House?

In a recent series of responses to questions from fans on X, Jones claimed he’s accepted a trilogy match with Daniel Cormier that would see him return to competition following his retirement.

However, fighting at the White House is still his number one priority, which led to one user asking an important question.

Jones was asked whether if his fight with Alex Pereira isn’t for a title, which it likely wouldn’t be, whether he’d still accept the matchup if it wasn’t the main event.

‘Bones’, who responded “Absolutely!”, hasn’t fought at a UFC event where he wasn’t the main event or in a title fight since his submission win over Ryan Bader at UFC 126.

Following this win in February of 2011, he made a quick turnaround to challenge Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua for the light heavyweight title, beating him to become the youngest UFC champion of all time.

Jon Jones says it’s his ‘goal’ to make the sport’s top prospect better than him

On Saturday night, Gable Steveson produced his second win in MMA by knocking out Kevin Hein in just 24 seconds at APFC 21 in Albuquerque.

Jon Jones went on to say that he believes the Olympic gold medallist will be “the most elite heavyweight fighter on the planet within the next 12 months” when reacting to the knockout on his Instagram story.

When replying to questions from fans on social media, ‘Bones’ spoke about Steveson again, having helped the former wrestling star’s transition into MMA.

A fan asked Jones whether he believes his teammate will be better than him within this time, which he claimed is “the goal”.

“He’s the perfect student,” Jones continued. “And we have so much to show him. It’s pretty exciting stuff.”
