Jon Jones’ career has taken several twists in recent months, with retirement and comeback talk repeatedly shifting.
The former UFC champion has struggled to find common ground with the promotion over potential blockbuster fights.
For instance, a proposed heavyweight unification bout with Tom Aspinall never materialised despite advanced talks.
That situation reportedly caused frustration behind the scenes, particularly after ‘Bones’ reportedly accepted terms and suddenly gave up on the fight, announcing his retirement soon after.
Jones later hinted at a return for the high-profile White House event, but negotiations again collapsed. Now, after further public frustration with the UFC, his latest comments suggest this time his decision may finally be definitive.
Jones has now delivered his clearest indication yet that his career is over.
Speaking in a video during a visit to a bare knuckle boxing event in Russia, he stated: “My gloves are hung up. I’m chilling these days. You got business Jon Jones, no more fighter Jon Jones.”
The statement to Red Corner MMA follows months of frustration behind the scenes. Disagreements over financial terms appear to have played a central role in preventing a return to the Octagon to fight Alex Pereira on UFC Freedom 250.
He was reportedly offered $15 million, half of what UFC put on the table for him to face Aspinall, and he did not accept.
There have also been concerns about his physical condition. A video circulating on social media showed Jones discussing significant hip issues.

He claimed to be dealing with severe arthritis in his left hip, even suggesting he could require a replacement. That added another layer of uncertainty to any potential comeback.
If the retirement proves to be his final decision, Jones will leave the sport with a remarkable record. He stands at 28 wins with one no contest, remaining undefeated in his professional career.
That CV, combined with his dominance across multiple eras, cements his place firmly in the debate over the greatest fighter in MMA history.
