Jon Jones is looking to make his comeback at the White House event in 2026, even if it means taking a step back in terms of status.
Despite stepping away from the sport earlier this year, two main factors have driven his interest in returning.
Jones seems motivated by the challenge Alex Pereira presents. The current UFC light heavyweight champion would be a high-profile opponent who could add another chapter to Jones’ storied career.
‘Bones’ also expressed immediate interest in competing at the UFC’s unique event scheduled for the White House in 2026.
Following his apology to Dana White for the earlier negotiation breakdown this year regarding a potential fight with Tom Aspinall, Jones recently asserted his commitment to further steps to secure his place on the card.
The 38-year-old is not alone in trying to land a spot on next June’s card. Conor McGregor is already being talked about as the likely headliner, given his status as the sport’s biggest draw.
A trilogy bout with Daniel Cormier has reportedly been accepted by Jones following questions from fans on social media.
Still, nothing seems more important to him right now than competing at the White House in June next year.
This led one fan on X to ask whether ‘Bones’ would be happy taking on Alex Pereira without either a belt or main event billing attached. He did not hesitate, replying: “Absolutely!”
The last time Jon Jones appeared anywhere other than atop a pay-per-view was back in February 2011 when he defeated Ryan Bader by submission at UFC 126.
Just weeks later, he shocked Mauricio Rua (Shogun) to become champion – still holding that record today as the youngest champion ever crowned inside the Octagon.
On Saturday night at APFC 21 in Albuquerque, Gable Steveson made quick work of Kevin Hein, finishing him in just 24 seconds to pick up his second win in MMA.
Reacting to the knockout on his Instagram story, Jones went as far as to say he believes the Olympic gold medallist will be “the most elite heavyweight fighter on the planet within the next 12 months.”
‘Bones’ had a hand in Steveson’s transition into MMA and spoke again about his potential while fielding questions from fans on social media.
When questioned by a fan about whether he thought his teammate would surpass him, Jones responded that this is the “goal”.
“He’s the perfect student. And we have so much to show him. It’s pretty exciting stuff,” Jones stated.
