Since announcing his retirement from the UFC, Jon Jones’ relationship with Dana White has seemingly taken a hit.

After what was an extremely long and tumultuous saga to try and get Jon Jones to return to action to unify his title against Tom Aspinall, ‘Bones’ opted to instead retire from the sport earlier this year.

However, news was then broken by President Donald Trump that the UFC will host an event at the White House in 2026, in what is set to be the biggest event in the sport ever.

And almost immediately after, the former UFC heavyweight champion declared his plan to return to action, just weeks after announcing his retirement.

Jones vows to prove Dana White wrong with UFC return plans

Despite declaring his plan to headline the upcoming event at the White House, UFC boss Dana White almost immediately shut down the idea of it, stating that he wouldn’t trust putting Jones on the event.

White’s comments haven’t deterred Jones from targeting a comeback on the card, though, as not long after White gave him ‘billion to one’ odds, Jones declared he is still optimistic about competing on the card.

And now with more details being released about the one-of-a-kind event, the 38-year-old has vowed to show White how serious he is about returning to the sport.

“I feel freakin tremendous, I’m training constantly, the brand is in a great place, doing really cool things and I’m just happy to be here,” Jones recently told MMAJunkie at the 2025 MTV Music Awards.

“I don’t know (whether I’ll be on the White House card), I’m definitely training constantly for the opportunity my goal is to just show Dana how serious I am about being on the event and I hope he chooses me, but ultimately it’s in his hands, he’s the boss.

“It’s a great sign that I’m not only here but a part of the production and the show.”

UFC legend believes Jones vs Francis Ngannou could happen on White House event

With the UFC White House event set to be the biggest in the sport’s history, the main event will surely have to be a blockbuster one-of-a-kind fight.

And former UFC heavyweight contender Brendan Schaub believes that we could finally see Jones vs Francis Ngannou on the event, with the two forever linked together.
