A few of Jose Aldo’s UFC records are at risk.
Barring another comeback, Aldo’s time competing inside the Octagon is officially over.
After returning for one final run in 2024, Aldo has gone back into retirement once again. That decision was announced during Saturday’s UFC Rio broadcast, with the legendary Brazilian laying down his gloves on home soil.
With that, one of the all-time great careers in both MMA and the UFC has come to an end. And as it stands, Aldo sits at the top of the featherweight mountain in a number of ways.
After being promoted from WEC featherweight champion to the UFC’s 145-pound titleholder in 2010, Aldo went on an incredible run inside the Octagon.
The Brazilian great extended his winning streak to 18 straight fights by defending the gold seven times. To this day, Aldo still holds the records for most consecutive and overall featherweight title defenses in UFC history.
That run has also helped ‘Junior’ stay at the top of the heap for championship fights and wins in the division. Aldo has incredibly fought in 11 featherweight title fights on MMA’s biggest stage, winning a record eight of them.
The 39-year-old’s last title fight at 145 pounds came in 2017, when Aldo was beaten by Max Holloway at UFC 218. His last victory in a clash for gold at featherweight was one year before, when the Brazilian defeated Frankie Edgar at UFC 212.

The biggest rival to Jose Aldo’s potential featherweight GOAT status is undoubtedly Alexander Volkanovski, and the Australian could be set to break the Brazilian’s high-profile records in the division.
When Volkanovski beat Diego Lopes at UFC 314 to begin a second reign, he reignited the possibility of surpassing one of his legendary predecessors.
‘Alexander the Great’ has five successful title defenses in the weight class, leaving him two away from tying Aldo’s tally of seven.
Volkanovski is closer to equaling a different record, though. He needs just one more title-fight win to tie Aldo’s eight victories in featherweight championship fights.
While further away, another three featherweight title fights would see the current featherweight king match Aldo’s total of 11.
