LAS VEGAS — Joselyne Edwards didn’t just win she made a statement. In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 274 at the UFC APEX, Edwards (18-6 MMA, 9-4 UFC) pulled off a major upset, defeating Norma Dumont (13-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).
As the scorecards were read, Dumont stood stunned clearly believing the fight had gone her way. Edwards, on the other hand, had no doubts. “I knew I had won,” Edwards said. “She let me control her… I did more damage.”
From her perspective, the fight was clear-cut control, pressure, and effective offense all in her favor. The fight played out as a tactical battle, but Edwards’ approach proved decisive:
While Dumont had moments, Edwards’ ability to dictate where the fight took place ultimately swung the judges in her favor.
With the victory, Edwards extends her run to five straight wins, including:
Coming into the fight ranked No. 11, Edwards defeated the No. 3-ranked Dumont putting herself firmly into the title conversation.
Edwards credits her recent success to a shift in mindset. “I looked at what I needed to fix… I had the skills, but I didn’t know how to execute,” she said. Patience and composure two things she admits were missing earlier in her career have now become strengths.
With the upset win, Edwards is expected to take a significant leap in the rankings. And she’s not shy about her goals. “This year I’m ready to kill whoever I need to kill to get that belt.”
