Kayla Harrison isn’t buying what Ronda Rousey has to sell in the slightest.
Last week, the full card that Rousey will headline in her return was confirmed for the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles on May 16.
The line-up being revealed has led to some debate over whether MVP MMA 1 is better than the UFC White House card that takes place in June.
Harrison, who would’ve defended her UFC belt in the capital if it wasn’t for an injury, has taken a strong stance on the build to the first MMA event on Netflix.
Ronda Rousey and Kayla Harrison competed against each other in Judo before both women would go on to become dominant forces in MMA, albeit in different eras.
In a recent episode of his Death Row MMA podcast, Jorge Masvidal joked with Harrison that her “old mentor” is coming back when getting her thoughts on the upcoming MVP MMA card.
“I don’t think we should talk about this because I don’t think I have anything nice to say,” the current UFC bantamweight champion responded.
Harrison went on to explain that she’s taken issue with some of Rousey’s comments ahead of this fight, specifically highlighting her calling it the best female fight of all time.
“She [Gina Carano] hasn’t fought in 17 years, like shut up,” Harrison added, before saying that their teammate Chris Duncan doesn’t know what they’re on about because Rousey is “so f—— irrelevant.”
The two-time Olympic gold medallist also provided an update on when she expects to be able to return to full training after undergoing neck surgery at the start of the year.
Johnny Eblen recently told Bloody Elbow that Harrison was already back training, but she provided the update that after a CT scan next week, she’ll be able to start drilling again if everything goes well.
After that, providing she continues to make good progress, she believes she’ll be back sparring several weeks later.
