Kayla Harrison is ready to fight Amanda Nunes at any weight class following her win over Julianna Pena at UFC 316, as we look at how the fight could play out.

Harrison submitted Pena to become the UFC Bantamweight Champion in just her third UFC fight. After the fight, Harrison called out Nunes as they faced off in the Octagon. Nunes will make her return to the UFC after she retired as the bantamweight champion in her last fight against Irene Aldana at UFC 289 in 2023. Nunes is regarded as one of the greatest female MMA fighters, having won belts at bantamweight and featherweight. She held both simultaneously, something no other woman has achieved. Nunes will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame this year, with Harrison ready to take her on.

“I just want to fight. I definitely want to fight Amanda—she’s the greatest of all time. I want to be the greatest of all time. There’s no bad blood. I don’t care what weight we fight at. I’d fight her on Mars, I don’t care. I want her to be ready, and I’ll be ready,” Harrison said

What Happens?

Harrison would aim to utilize her grappling prowess by closing the distance, securing powerful throws, and dominating on the ground. Kayla’s striking is used to set up her grappling, although she is not the most experienced at bantamweight. The weight cut could take its toll against someone like Nunes, who is regarded as the greatest female MMA fighter.

Nunes is known for her devastating striking power, precise counter-striking, and Muay Thai skills. Nunes’ record stands at 23-5-0, with 13 knockouts to her name. Nunes also has strong takedown defense and formidable grappling skills, having black belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo. Nunes also has extensive championship experience, although there are questions regarding her endurance, leading to an intriguing match-up.
