Rountree failed a drug test prior to his fight with Jamahal Hill on UFC 303. Rountree publicly announced failure and shortly after he was removed from the card. Through documentation provided by Rountree, CSAD confirmed a supplement company sent the fighter “therapeutic blend” products “without prior approval.” CSAD wrote that the supplement company owner called the error “a massive oversight on our part.”
Khalil Rountree’s quick action seemed to be appreciated by the commission as they made their ruling on his suspension.
“I’m glad he showed up, and the self-reporting obviously had a great influence on the commission’s decision here,” NAC chairman Dallas Haun said. “I applaud him for self-reporting.”
The supplements that were taken did not believed to have any significant performance benefits according to the commission.
With the duration of the suspension expiring prior to Oct. 5th. His scheduled fight vs. light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira in Salt Lake City is good to go. Rountree gets the opportunity to shock the world against the Pereira as he’s a underdog in that fight. Without a doubt he has a punchers chance. We’ve seen upsets happen and if he could pull off one that it would certainly be one of the biggest upsets of all time in the UFC.
