It finally happened: Khamzat Chimaev is a UFC champion. After years of hype, dominance, and endless speculation about when his moment would come, “Borz” now sits at the top of the middleweight mountain.
But if winning gold is one thing, holding on to it is a whole different beast. Now, every fighter in the division has their sights locked on him, and the first name circling could be Dutch standout Reinier de Ridder.
And while fans are already buzzing about how that matchup might look, Chimaev himself isn’t leaving much to the imagination; he's got a very clear, very intimidating warning for de Ridder if they ever meet inside the Octagon.
Ever since UFC 319 wrapped up, Reinier de Ridder has been loudly campaigning for a shot at Khamzat Chimaev. He’s convinced he’s got the skills to stop Chimaev’s reign before it even really begins. And it looks like Chimaev’s been paying attention; he threw out a tweet with de Ridder’s name and a bunch of skull emojis.
RDR didn’t waste any time firing back: “Congrats on the belt @KChimaev. But I’ll show you what real grappling dominance looks like. Sign the contract.”
I’m gonna make you look like white belt habibi

In response, Chimaev said, “I’m gonna make you look like white belt habibi.”
Reinier de Ridder was cageside at UFC 319, watching Khamzat Chimaev dominate Dricus Du Plessis to claim the middleweight crown. And now that “Borz” has made it clear he wants a quick turnaround in Abu Dhabi this October, de Ridder is more than willing to step in.
The Dutchman is confident he has what it takes to hand Chimaev his first loss, no matter where the fight goes. “If I get taken down, fine. If I take him down, fine. If we’re striking, also fine,” he told Submission Radio. “I think I match up really well, and I’d love for it to happen.”
De Ridder believes his grappling is the X-factor. He insists he can threaten Chimaev off his back or on top, and even teased some “sneaky” tricks that could make life miserable for the champ.
Fresh off a gritty win over Robert Whittaker in July after knocking out Bo Nickal before that, de Ridder says he’s healthy, ready, and eager to fight in Abu Dhabi. “One hundred percent, dude,” he said. “Sign me up.”
