Khamzat Chimaev reveals plan to become three-weight UFC champion

Khamzat Chimaev is approaching his first shot at UFC gold, but his ambition doesn't end there. If all goes to plan for the undefeated middleweight, he will be the first fighter to hold titles in three different weight classes inside the octagon.

'Borz' has long been a standout name in the sport, but untimely health problems have prevented him from taking the next step in his career. The 28-year-old hasn't had an easy road to his first title shot, and it will likely not get any easier when he collides with Dricus Du Plessis on August 16.

Despite approaching arguably the toughest test of his career, Khamzat Chimaev has his sights on something greater. Discussing his future, Chimaev set some ambitious plans for himself.

"I work with the new coach, Coach [Joakim Karlsson]," Chimaev said. "We talk about going down again, back to my first fights [at] 170..."

"He said he'll give me a couple of months, and we're gonna make it. I don't know who is the champ there, this guy, Australian guy. Yeah, it would be a good fight for me [to] go down and fight with him."

"I could take the belt [at welterweight], and if I go up there is [Magomed] Ankalaev and Alex Pereira. They are fighting now, whoever's winning, I can fight for that belt as well."

Khamzat Chimaev can realize a major milestone in his plan if he can bypass Dricus Du Plessis's constant threat inside the cage, a feat nobody under the UFC banner has managed thus far.

Chimaev isn't the only one interested in double champ status. Du Plessis has publicly stated his intent to add more gold to his treasury.

The South African looked destined to be a future contender for Alex Pereira during 'Poatan's reign at 205 lbs. While the noise has gone silent on his move up in weight since Magomed Ankalaev claimed the throne at light heavyweight, doubts regarding Du Plessis' middleweight future persist.
