The UFC London headliner does not seem too concerned about talk of Jean Silva leapfrogging the upcoming main event winner.
Lerone Murphy will face Movsar Evloev this Saturday in a battle between snubbed featherweight contenders. Both were passed over when it came to choosing Alexander Volkanovski’s latest opponent.
Many believe the undefeated stars were more deserving than Diego Lopes, and they will have the chance to prove as much by keeping their ‘0’ intact in the English capital.
But recent rumors would suggest that things may not be as simple as the winner securing their first title shot.
Volkanovski vs Silva was recently reported as being “practically confirmed,” speculation that came after the Brazilian claimed to have been told about the fight from the UFC.
Unsurprisingly, the fighter who holds the fourth longest winning streak in featherweight history and has never tasted defeat inside the Octagon does not believe he should be getting skipped.
With a win over Evloev in the UFC London main event, Murphy believes there should be no doubt about his place above Silva in the pecking order.
“Well who knows? (Silva’s) 1-1 in his last two,” Murphy said during his media day interview on Wednesday.
“The winner of me and Movsar fights for the title and it shouldn’t be any other way.
“You just never know in this game. It’s all about (performing) a finish. I want it to be undeniable so they can’t not give me the shot.”

The Brazilian won his first five fights in the UFC, collecting four bonuses along the way. But Silva’s knockout loss to Lopes last September stalled his quick rise up the featherweight ladder.
‘Lord’ bounced back by defeating Arnold Allen by decision at UFC 324 this past January, and if his latest comments are to be believed, that result might have been enough to net Silva a surprise title shot.
