Lima Renames Institute After Nascimento's Death

Chute Boxe head coach Diego Lima has renamed his training academy in honor of Allan Nascimento, the UFC flyweight who died in his sleep last month from a reported cardiac arrest.

The Diego Lima Institute will now be called the Allan Nascimento Institute, Lima told MMA Fighting in an emotional interview. Nascimento, who competed under the nickname "Puro Osso," had trained under Lima since age 14, forging a two-decade partnership that extended beyond the gym.

Nascimento Handled Business Duties At Chute Boxe

Lima revealed that Nascimento served as his business partner in addition to being a student, managing the coach's email communications and contract negotiations. "A lot of people didn't know this, but when it came to all my management affairs, he was my partner," Lima said, per MMA Fighting. The coach had planned to retire from coaching when Nascimento eventually hung up his gloves around age 40.

Nascimento compiled a 22-7 professional record during his career. His sudden death last month shook the Chute Boxe team, reportedly prompting Charles Oliveira to withdraw from a scheduled UFC 331 rematch against Arman Tsarukyan to grieve his friend and teammate.

Lima said he has not gone a day without crying since Nascimento's passing. "As long as I live, I will honor his name," he told the outlet. The rechristened Allan Nascimento Institute will continue operating in Curitiba.
