Former two-division MMA champion Losene Keita finally made his UFC debut on Saturday, but things did not go to plan for him.
‘Black Panther’ was among the biggest names on the UFC London card, having collected championships at both lightweight and featherweight in Europe’s Oktagon MMA promotion.
Things did not start well in the sport’s leading organization for him, as Keita’s fight with Patricio Pitbull at UFC Paris last September was scrapped after the newcomer missed weight.
There was no issue on the scale in England’s capital for Keita, but the hurdle to having his hand raised in the UFC instead came in the form of Nathaniel Wood.
Wood has long been regarded as one of the most underrated and under-appreciated fighters competing on MMA’s biggest stage, and he proved why with another strong performance on home soil.
‘The Last Kingsman’ was tasked with welcoming Keita to the Octagon in what marked a UFC London fight that was being widely described as the ‘people’s main event’.
The bout delivered as expected in terms of competitive action, with some struggling to split the two when it came to scoring.
That was the case with the judges, with two leaning the way of Wood after three close rounds inside The O2 arena.
Not everyone agreed with that verdict, with some even going as far as to call the result a robbery.
“If the fight is anywhere else Keita wins.”
“Back-to-back robbery wins for Wood.”
“(Wood) won because it’s London.”
“Keita robbed, he won (rounds) 2 and 3.”

The 23-6 Wood has now won four fights in a row and seven of his last eight. The one defeat in that run came in controversial circumstances against Muhammad Naimov, with many believing the Tajik fighter should have had a point deducted.
Keita, meanwhile, has gotten off to a losing start in the UFC after previously winning five consecutive outings under the Oktagon banner. The Belgian-Guinean star is now 16-2 as a pro.
