Makhachev Names Opponents For Nurmagomedov UFC Debut

Islam Makhachev says undefeated PFL champion Usman Nurmagomedov is ready for an immediate UFC title shot.

The UFC welterweight champion told reporters at his UFC 330 media day that Nurmagomedov, cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov and a longtime training partner, could challenge for lightweight gold as soon as he signs with the promotion. "Usman has been training with us since he was really young. I know 100 percent that he's ready to fight for the UFC title tomorrow," Makhachev said, per BJPenn.com.

Makhachev Targets Gaethje, Tsarukyan, and Ruffy

Makhachev named three possible opponents for Nurmagomedov's debut campaign. He said the team wants lightweight champion Justin Gaethje for the belt but added that if one more fight is required, Nurmagomedov would face either Arman Tsarukyan or Mauricio Ruffy. Tsarukyan and Ruffy meet in the UFC 331 co-main event next month in Los Angeles, with the winner widely expected to challenge Gaethje.

Nurmagomedov recently stopped Archie Colgan at PFL New York and is now a free agent. Dana White confirmed interest in signing the undefeated champion, and manager Ali Abdelaziz indicated the UFC has made contact.

Makhachev defends his welterweight title Saturday against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 in Philadelphia.
