Islam Makhachev says Alexander Volkanovski is no longer at his best.

The UFC lightweight champion weighed in on Volkanovski's upcoming featherweight title defense against Movsar Evloev at UFC 333 on Oct. 24 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Makhachev, who has faced Volkanovski twice at 155 pounds, told reporters at a press conference in Russia that he expects Evloev's youth advantage to prove decisive against the 37-year-old champion, according to Sherdog.

Youth Factor Could Swing UFC 333 Title Fight

Makhachev acknowledged Volkanovski remains a formidable opponent but suggested the Australian has declined from the form he showed several years ago. "Volkanovski, honestly speaking, is not at the same peak he was a couple of years ago," he said. "Even though he is still one of the best fighters. I think it'll be a very competitive fight but I hope Movsar will do his job."

The Dagestani fighter predicted that Evloev, who is five years younger and carries a 20-0 record into the bout, will handle Volkanovski despite the difficulty of the challenge. Makhachev noted Evloev understands the task ahead, saying the undefeated contender knows Volkanovski presents a tough matchup for anyone in the division.

Volkanovski lost twice to Makhachev in lightweight title attempts, dropping a close decision in their 2023 first meeting before suffering a head-kick knockout in the rematch later that year. The featherweight king will look to defend his 145-pound strap for the sixth time when he meets Evloev at UFC 333.
