Max Holloway has admitted that he struggled to keep the secret of his upcoming rematch with Conor McGregor before it was confirmed.
The fight was one of the worst kept secrets in MMA history, with fans expecting the announcement a week before Dana White made it official with an Instagram Live stream. Eventually, it took Francis Ngannou making his walk on Netflix for White to finally announce the fight.
Now, Holloway is able to speak about it freely and did so during his latest stream. It will be his first fight up at 170lb, and will mark McGregor’s return to the sport five years after suffering a gruesome broken leg against Dustin Poirer in 2021.
When Max Holloway and Conor McGregor’s rematch was announced, fans were pretty much expecting it. However, it made massive news and is already expected to be one of the biggest cards the promotion has ever put on.
“You guys know how hard it is to keep that fight under wraps for how long we did?” Holloway asked his fans on his first stream since it was announced. “We knew about that fight for a minute, bro. Now it’s coming through.”

Viewers proceeded to ask Holloway questions, particularly if he expects McGregor to maintain his ability on the microphone after years away. “Of course,” he replied. “Why wouldn’t his mic skills be the same? I’m excited.”
He also noted that fighting at welterweight means there is essentially no restriction on his diet during training camp. Holloway and McGregor last fought 13 years ago at featherweight, but meet again with 25lb more allowed on their frames this time around.
“I’m excited, I get to eat what I want to eat during all of camp, boys! Imagine I missed weight at 170lb, holy s—. What the hell am I doing?”
