Max Holloway is stoked for Ilia Topuria-Alexander Volkanovski rematch

After Ilia Topuria defeated Max Holloway at UFC 308 to retain his featherweight belt, UFC president Dana White hinted that Alexander Volkanovski could be next up to challenge the title holder.

White said everyone would want to see the potential rematch — Topuria took the belt from Volkanovski at UFC 298 — and even Holloway agreed.

“They’re both different fighters; they’re both good in their own ways,” Holloway said in his post-fight press conference, per the UFC. “I can see Volk winning the fight in different ways, and I can see Ilia winning the fight in different ways. Both top-notch guys, both deserve to be fighting for the title. Ilia deserves to be the champion right now, so I can’t wait. That should be a fun fight.”

Holloway has a unique perspective on the possible fight, as he has now fought both Topuria and Volkanovski. Blessed is 0-4 against the two fighters.

Topuria knocked out Holloway in the third round on Saturday, marking the first time the Hawaiian has been KO’d in his career. Volkanovski won the title when he beat Holloway via unanimous decision at UFC 245. The two fought again at UFC 251, with Volkanovski on the receiving end of a split decision. Volkanovski then won by unanimous decision at UFC 276.

At this point, it looks unlikely that Holloway will stick around at 145 to take another crack at Topuria or Volkanovski right away. Instead, Blessed talked a lot about how exciting another fight at lightweight could be.

Holloway is currently the No. 5 lightweight contender. After he knocked out lightweight Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 to claim the BMF belt, a fight against former BMF belt challenger Dustin Poirier could be in the works.

Poirier is 2-0 against Holloway, but Blessed isn’t scared to take him on again. When asked about a potential trilogy match with Poirier, he said with a smile, “Hey, that’d be nice. ‘The Diamond,’ sign me up, bro.”
