Max Holloway makes massive announcement about UFC future

After a failed attempt to reclaim the featherweight belt against Ilia Topuria at UFC 308, Max Holloway hinted that he wouldn’t try again. On Saturday, "Blessed" verified that he’s likely finished with the 145-pound division, in part because of his love for ramen.

“I can honestly say I think I’m done with 145,” Holloway said in a video posted to his YouTube channel. “…We’re only getting older, I’m turning 33. … It takes a toll cutting weight, period, in whatever weight you are. Like I said, I had to give up ramen for my 45 camp, so I’m done with that. I don’t ever want to give up ramen again — 155 here we come, and 155 is where I want to stay.”

Holloway began his UFC career in the lightweight division. He’s currently the No. 5 contender at 155 and recently won the BMF belt from No. 3 contender Justin Gaethje in a lightweight bout at UFC 300.

There’s also the possibility of a trilogy fight with lightweight Dustin Poirier, a potentially massive matchup. Poirier has defeated Holloway twice, and the Hawaiian expressed interest in facing his old rival immediately following his loss to Topuria.

Plus, Poirier once fought Gaethje for the BMF belt, and UFC president Dana White is looking for an opportunity to put the unique title on a fight card.

So the future is bright for Holloway at 155. He’ll have all the ramen he can eat, a possible BMF challenge and a chance to compete with other top contenders for a title shot.
