Max Holloway is no stranger to ending incredible careers ahead of UFC 318.

For a lot of fans, the road to July 19 has been about celebrating the remarkable run of Dustin Poirier as he prepares to make the walk for the last time.

Though there have been some concerns raised regarding Poirier’s mentality before he fights in front of his home fans in Louisiana, that won’t worry Max Holloway.

Having been stopped last time out, Holloway will want to rebound even if it means denying an opponent for whom he has a lot of respect his fairy tale ending.

In fact, this isn’t the only time that ‘Blessed’ has found himself in this position and on that occasion, he produced one of his most remarkable finishes.

Max Holloway ended The Korean Zombie’s career with one punch in Singapore

In August of 2023, Max Holloway would record his final win in the UFC’s featherweight division before committing to fighting at lightweight.

After beating Arnold Allen earlier in the year to bounce back from his third loss to Alexander Volkanovski, ‘Blessed’ looked to record back-to-back wins by facing a legend of the sport.

Chan Sung Jung, also known as ‘The Korean Zombie‘, looked to put on one last last show for his fans when facing Holloway in the main event of the UFC’s card in Singapore.

Zombie could have easily walked away following his decisive loss to Volkanovski the year before but facing Holloway was another chance to go out on top.

Unfortunately, it didn’t go the way that the 25-fight veteran would have wanted.

In trademark fashion, Zombie pushed forward with reckless abandon in the third round as he looked to put everything he had into trying to turn the tide.

Holloway responded with a huge counter right hand that faceplanted his opponent, leading to one of the most emotional UFC retirements in some time after the Zombie laid down the gloves.

While he never won a UFC title, the South Korean icon had a remarkable career, having even submitted Dustin Poirier when they faced off in May of 2012.

Max Holloway and The Korean Zombie struck up a great relationship after their fight

Similarly to what fans can expect regardless of the main event of UFC 318, there was a lot of mutual respect between Max Holloway and ‘The Korean Zombie’.

In fact, several months ago, ‘Blessed’ took a trip to South Korea to spend some time with his former opponent.

Along with some sparring rounds, they sampled the local cuisine before Holloway’s wife ended up leaving both men stunned by beating their high scores on a punching bag arcade game.

Given their previous interactions after sharing the Octagon twice, Holloway and Poirier are sure to also have a special bond with one another once all is said and done on July 19.
