Maycee Barber suffered one of the most ruthless losses we’ve seen inside the Octagon in some time.
Barber was knocked out and submitted by Alexa Grasso when attempting to avenge her prior loss to the former champion.
Dana White gave Grasso a bonus and praised the finish highly when reflecting on what many believe was the best event of the year so far.
For fans worrying about Barber in the aftermath of the fight, she posted a positive update on social media after being transported to the hospital.
Maycee Barber was already out by the time Alexa Grasso put her in a rear-naked choke immediately after dropping her in the first round.
Barber has had to overcome some serious health issues in recent years that led to a long break in her career before having her seven-fight win streak ended.
‘The Future’ was transported to the hospital after her scary loss on Saturday night, where she reposted a message from her partner on social media to let fans know that she’s okay.
“Part of the game,” Oscar Herrera wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of Barber appearing to be in good spirits. “Congrats to Alexa. We got caught but are okay. We’ll be back soon, thanks for everyone checking in.”
It is surely going to be a painful loss for Barber after suffering a significant setback in her push towards the flyweight title.
However, after everything she’s been through to even make it back to the Octagon, the 27-year-old isn’t going to be deterred by one defeat.
MMA Mania reported that Barber was taken to the hospital for precautionary CT scans of her head and face, which is fairly common for fighters after they suffer a concerning loss.
