McGregor Confirms Successful Surgery

Conor McGregor has gone under the knife following his ill-fated UFC 329 return — and says the surgery went well.

McGregor suffered ACL and meniscus damage to his right knee early in his rematch with Max Holloway at UFC 329 — a cruel echo of their first meeting in 2013, when he tore the same ligament in the same fight. Five years after breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, the comeback ended before it had barely begun.

Darren Till urged McGregor to walk away, saying it was "probably best to just let it go." Chris Weidman took the opposing view, backing McGregor to return simply because he won't accept going out like this.

McGregor himself has already made his position clear. When asked by a fan on X who he wants to fight next, he said the Holloway trilogy must happen — and that nothing else will do.

Whether the body allows it is another matter. McGregor turns 39 next year, has now suffered two fight-ending leg injuries in his last two UFC appearances, and will be starting his rehabilitation from scratch. The road back to the Octagon is long.
