McGregor reignites feud by calling Khabib a ‘stain on his father’s name’ in explosive rant

Days after declaring a spiritual rebirth, the former UFC champion returns to old hostilities with a blistering attack on his long-time rival.

Conor McGregor’s attempt at a fresh start didn’t last long. After announcing earlier this week that he had stepped away from social media, undergone trauma treatment and “met Jesus” during a spiritual journey, the Irishman has reverted to familiar territory — taking aim at Khabib Nurmagomedov with one of his harshest tirades yet.

Ahead of a potential 2026 UFC comeback, McGregor had briefly distanced himself from online confrontations. But controversy resurfaced quickly when Khabib posted, then deleted, a series of promotional tweets about digital papakhas, the Dagestani headwear he made iconic during his career. The abrupt removal of the posts sparked fan suspicion — and prompted McGregor to unleash a scathing response.

McGregor accuses Khabib of using his late father’s name for a “scam”

Taking to X, McGregor accused Khabib of exploiting both his father’s legacy and Dagestani culture to sell digital NFTs before deleting the content.

“There is just no way good guy Khabib used his late father’s name, as well as Dagestan’s culture, to scam his fans,” McGregor wrote, calling it “a stain on his father’s name.”

He went even further, adding:
“Father’s plan has now become father’s scam. Very sad.”

The bitter rivalry between the two former champions — which fuelled the infamous UFC 229 fallout — remains the most heated feud in UFC history. Even years after Khabib’s retirement, tensions persist, with altercations involving teammates, including Dillon Danis, reigniting bad blood at events such as UFC 322.

McGregor eyes comeback — and a new potential opponent emerges

While the online clash with Khabib dominated headlines, McGregor’s return to the cage appears closer than ever. His long-targeted matchup with Michael Chandler remains the expected comeback fight for 2026.

However, a new contender has entered the conversation. Following his win at UFC Qatar, lightweight star Arman Tsarukyan said the only fight he would take aside from a title shot against Ilia Topuria would be a blockbuster bout with McGregor.

As McGregor edges toward his return, both his rivalry with Khabib and the options awaiting him in the octagon ensure he stays firmly at the centre of the MMA spotlight — spiritual journey or not.
