McGregor Undergoes Surgery After UFC 329 Knee Injury

Conor McGregor had surgery this week to repair the knee he destroyed 66 seconds into his UFC 329 return against Max Holloway.

The former two-division champion posted a brief update Wednesday confirming the procedure went well. "Surgery went excellent!" McGregor wrote on Instagram, per MMA Fighting. "I am confident!" The injury — a torn ACL — typically requires 9 to 12 months of recovery before a fighter can compete again.

McGregor's Second ACL Tear in UFC Career

McGregor blew out his knee on the opening strike of the fight, landing awkwardly after attempting a jumping roundhouse kick. The referee stopped the bout when it became clear the Irishman could not continue. It marked a cruel end to a comeback fight that came five years after McGregor broke his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

McGregor tore the ACL in his opposite knee during his first fight with Holloway back in 2013. He finished that bout, winning by unanimous decision, before undergoing surgery. This time the damage was immediate and severe.

McGregor has targeted International Fight Week 2027 for his return. He has one fight remaining on his current UFC contract and has said he intends to fulfill that final bout before exploring opportunities outside the octagon.
