There were rumors of Ian Machado Garry facing Islam Makhachev in the summer. But nothing is confirmed by officials yet, though the rumor got really viral on X as fans eagerly want to know who’s next for Makhachev. Meanwhile, Michael Morales is now calling out the Dagestani fighter for a future showdown.
After defeating Sean Brady at UFC 322, Morales became a top welterweight title contender. Now calling out the welterweight champ, the Ecuadorian fighter acknowledged Makhachev’s legacy and achievements, calling him a legendary fighter with multiple titles. But at the same time, he’s confident and ready to step up for a title shot. In a recent interview with KOlmeneroMMA, he said:
“We are looking for that fight with Islam. They already gave us excuses not to fight, but I’m willing. I’m not going to take away merit from my rival because Islam is a legendary fighter. He has done his thing and already has two titles, but I have also come with that hunger to win the title.“

Morales also hinted that there have been excuses delaying the fight, but made it clear he’s willing whenever the opportunity comes. But fans are now getting all the hints that Garry is next for the welterweight title shot, and a lot of people are also saying he’s the one who deserves the shot.
Jon Anik believes Ian Machado Garry has done enough to earn the next shot at Islam Makhachev. With contenders like Carlos Prates and Michael Morales in the mix, the division is stacked, but Anik feels Garry stands out based on recent performances and overall body of work. In a recent interview with Mike Bohn, the ESPN commentator said:
“I think straight meritocracy based on the body of work, despite Morales’ undefeated record and the wildly sensational win over Sean Brady. And I just feel like Makhachev vs Ian Garry is the fight. I think Ian Garry is going to be the guy, and he’s the most deserving.”

After bouncing back from his loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov with two strong wins, Garry has rebuilt momentum and is actively calling for the title shot. If the Irish fighter gets the shot, it may build the hype similar to Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov.
