At UFC London, Michael Page, known as “Venom,” defeated Sam Patterson in a unanimous decision victory, yet this was not very exciting to the audience. Although he won three consecutive fights, the performance was not as flamboyant as the fans are accustomed to with the dynamic striker. The feeling within the arena when the decision was announced was one of much disappointment.

Michael Page went into the bout confidently, but with frustration in the promotion. He had, in the build-up to the fight, publicly complained about his matchmaking, that the opponents they had assigned him were not allowing him to compete to his fullest capabilities.

Dana White Gives a Sincere Evaluation

UFC President Dana White was not reluctant to comment on the poor performance of the fight. In an interview after the fight, he indicated that the match did not provide entertainment value.

According to White, it was not a good fight and stated that it was a poor performance in totality. He said that even though Page was the winner, the performance leaves us with a lot of questions concerning what will happen next to him within the division.

White’s honest assessment reflected the sentiment shared by many fans. They wanted to see a more active fight with a fighter known for his ruthless strikes and ability to deliver a knockout.

Michael Page Exasperated With Fight Dynamics

Following the bout, Michael Page expressed his dissatisfaction with how the fight unfolded. Although this was a win for him, it is evident that he was not satisfied with the performance.

According to Page, competing with an opponent who was not interested in doing so was frustrating. He observed that it is sometimes hard to fight an opponent who is always on the back foot, rather than fighting with a fighter with aggressive behavior. In his view, it becomes difficult to build up exciting situations when the opponent fighter is mainly preoccupied with evading exchanges.

Style Criticism Continues

Page has made his reputation by knockouts and flashy striking exhibitions. But such performances as the one against Sam Patterson have attracted continued criticism. On occasions when he cannot deliver a strong ending, his bouts are usually considered to be lackluster in comparison to their anticipated performance.

This contrast has led fans and analysts to question whether he consistently delivers entertaining performances inside the octagon. His technical ability is still on display, but there is also a danger of slow-paced competition as opponents are not always engaged, and he is proving to be cautious.

What Lies Ahead

Michael Page still has a strong standing in the division following three straight victories. Nevertheless, there are doubts about his future matches. Much will hinge on whether the officials at UFC are willing to drop a match for him with an opponent willing to be more active, and in the process, he may be able to revert to his usual style.

In the meantime, Page won UFC London, but there are some unanswered questions as to how he fits into the plans for the promotion in the future.

Endgame Insight

Although Michael Page is consistently winning, his recent performance shows that there are still issues regarding engagement and entertainment value. The way he pairs off in future encounters will probably make the difference whether he can bring out the dynamic style that fans want to see.
