Moreno On Joshua Van's Chances Against Pantoja

Former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno thinks Joshua Van will keep his belt when he rematches Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 331.

Van captured the flyweight title when Pantoja suffered an injury during their first meeting, leading critics to question the legitimacy of the finish. The rematch gives Van a chance to answer those doubts. Moreno, who previously held the belt himself, told Ariel Helwani's show he has a good feeling about Van's chances despite Pantoja's proven ability to grind out victories.

Moreno Backs Van Despite Pantoja's Track Record

"I love the fight," Moreno said, per MMA Junkie. "I think it's going to be a super good fight. Pantoja was a champion for a reason, but I don't know, I have this feeling where I think Joshua is going to win."

Moreno acknowledged Pantoja's history of escaping trouble and securing takedowns to control fights. But he defended Van against criticism that the young champion has been too cocky heading into the bout. "He's young and he's enjoying life, you know?" Moreno said. "He's been doing a lot of good things in a short period of time, so I understand."

Moreno remains a contender in the flyweight division and will likely pursue a title shot against whoever emerges victorious. Van and Pantoja clash at UFC 331 this Saturday.
