The division change is not new in combat sports. Fighters often switch to another division when they no longer see fights or opportunities in their weight class. Earlier, after growing frustrated with the lightweight division, Arman Tsarukyan said he wants to move down to featherweight. Now, ahead of the UFC London fight, Movsar Evloev has shown interest in fighting him.

Evloev acknowledges Tsarukyan as a popular fighter. Popularity combined with genuine elite-level ability makes the matchup worth discussing, regardless of the division. He is also looking for a title shot. If anything goes wrong at UFC London against Lerone Murphy, their fight will act as a title eliminator.

Arman is a very popular fighter. It would be interesting to fight him. I have no disrespect to him whatsoever. But If we’ll have to fight who am I to turn it down,” Movsar said.

The division change is the central piece of the whole conversation. It carries more weight than a standard hypothetical. Tsarukyan himself has already floated the idea of dropping to featherweight. He has repeatedly found himself on the wrong side of the conversation about the lightweight title shot. For now, Evloev is focused on just one thing: fighting for the title.

Movsar Evloev Says Winner of UFC London Deserves Title Shot

Heading into his main event clash with Lerone Murphy at UFC Fight Night in London on March 21, Evloev addressed the title shot question. He directly removes any room for the UFC to maneuver around the obvious conclusion.

It looks like it’s a [No. 1] contender fight. If I win or Murphy wins. I don’t see no excuse to not give a title shot the winner of this fight. Who else? [Jean] Silva is talking after his fight, but he just lost,” Evloev said.

Earlier, champion Alexander Volkanovski publicly stated he wants to fight the winner of Evloev vs. Murphy. London on March 21 just became considerably more meaningful than a standard Fight Night main event. Both men are fighting for a title shot, whether the UFC has officially labeled it that way or not.
