From bone-snapping armbars to suffocating rear-naked chokes, the art of the submission remains one of MMA's most terrifying spectacles. Fighters like Charles Oliveira and Demian Maia have built legacies on their ability to blend technical precision with raw brutality, leaving their opponents dazed or injured long after the tap, that is, if they do tap.

Now, another Brazilian fighter has used his impressive submission skills on someone who is known for their technical ability on the mat.

Jean Silva handed Bryce Mitchell a brutal loss at UFC 314, rendering the Arkansas fighter unconscious via a rare “ninja choke” in the first round. The defeat marks Mitchell's third stoppage loss in the promotion, and his third loss in the last five fights.

After what was frankly a dominating performance by Silva, the fight ended in the third round when Silva locked in the choke against the cage, forcing Mitchell to tap before referee Herb Dean intervened. Upon the release of the choke, Mitchell went unconscious temporarily, and Silva started barking over his limp body.

Watch the aftermath here:

The Arkansas native, known for his outspoken personality and offensive takes, had been under scrutiny in recent months after making remarks praising Adolf Hitler in an episode of his podcast that has since been deleted from YouTube for violating the website’s terms of service— remarks that even UFC President Dana White condemned.

Mitchell had previously been a rising contender in the featherweight division, but his recent struggles raise questions about his future in the UFC. Meanwhile, Silva extended his winning streak and made a strong statement in his fifth consecutive win in the organization. It may be possible that we see Silva in title contention soon.
