Whether he’s competing in an MMA reality show against Jon Jones or getting involved in brawls with Russian MMA fighters in Thailand, Nate Diaz is still heavily involved in the sport of MMA despite walking away from the UFC. The Stockton, Calif. native has recently critiqued the UFC roster and has hinted at his wishes to reassert himself in a possible return fight against current established names rather than veterans on their way to retirement or rising prospects.
Now, Diaz has set the fight world abuzz once again with a bold claim that he could handle former UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad in a fight.
In a vlog that included footage of him watching UFC 315 at a bar, Diaz didn’t hold back, declaring, “I’ll fight Belal’s ass. I think I’d beat the sh—out of Belal Muhammad.”
The comment came as Diaz observed Muhammad’s title loss to Jack Della Maddalena, and hints at his interest in a welterweight clash if he were to return to the Octagon.
Diaz, who hasn’t fought in the UFC since his 2022 submission win over Tony Ferguson, has been vocal about his desire to make a comeback. Despite venturing into boxing—with a loss to Jake Paul and a revenge win over Jorge Masvidal—the 40-year-old fan favorite insists he can still compete in the UFC.
While Diaz has floated big-name opponents like Conor McGregor, Max Holloway, and Ilia Topuria, his sudden focus on Muhammad adds an intriguing layer to his comeback plans.
The former lightweight title challenger has never shied away from bold claims, and his dismissal of Muhammad’s skills aligns with his trademark brash attitude.
