Maycee Barber did not look good in the brief moment that marked her loss to Alexa Grasso at UFC Fight Night on Saturday.
The former flyweight champion scored a brutal win in the co-main event, knocking Barber out before choking her out to secure the win at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena.
Grasso floored her opponent, striking out with her left hand. Barber crumpled to the mat as her legs gave way beneath her before Grasso jumped on her back and locked in a rear-naked choke.
Referee Mike Beltran stopped the fight almost immediately after, with Barber then grabbing Beltran as if to ask for help and collapsing on her back.
Close-up video shows Barber’s tongue out of her mouth during the choke hold.
One X account noted that, “Alexa Grasso CHOKED OUT Maycee Barber to SLEEP w/ her Tongue out is CRAZY WORK #UFCSEATTLE.”
“Can anyone explain to me how the Barber/Grasso fight is counted as a KO?” another asked, also showing a cose-up.
The Seattle crowd held its collective breath as Barber lay motionless for several minutes.
Grasso respectfully paused her celebration and waited nearby as Barber received treatment from medics, eventually getting back on her feet.
