Norma Dumont Edges Ketlen Vieira, Demands Quick Turnaround Instead of Waiting for Title Shot

LAS VEGAS — Norma Dumont isn’t hanging around for a phone call. In a top-5 women’s bantamweight showdown tucked onto the prelims of UFC Fight Night 263, Dumont (13–2 MMA, 9–2 UFC) outpointed Ketlen Vieira over three competitive rounds, earning a split decision to extend her win streak to six. Coming in ranked No. 4 behind Vieira’s No. 3, Dumont is poised to leapfrog her Brazilian compatriot when the new list drops but she made it clear she has no interest in idling while the title picture sorts itself out.

“I don’t want to wake up with No. 3 next to my name I want No. 1,” Dumont said (via interpreter). “Waiting for a title could take too long… I want to fight before. Maybe if Julianna Peña comes out of her cave, we’d love to see her.”

The fight: measured adjustments, late surge

Dumont needed a round to dial in after a year away. Following her blood-and-guts battle with Irene Aldana at UFC 306. Once settled, she controlled range behind a steady jab, mixed in counters as Vieira pressed, and finished stronger down the stretch to sway two judges. The result nudges Dumont one more rung toward the top of a division ruled by Kayla Harrison, with former champs Peña and Raquel Pennington also stationed ahead.

The logjam at 135

  • Champion: Kayla Harrison (unbooked; persistent rumors of an Amanda Nunes return bout, nothing signed)

  • Former Champs: Julianna Peña (inactive since losing the belt at UFC 316), Raquel Pennington (awaiting assignment)

  • Now Rising: Norma Dumont (six straight, likely to No. 3)

Dumont’s concern: if Harrison’s next defense involves either Peña or Pennington and camps request recovery time a title shot might not materialize until mid-to-late next year.

With momentum and matchmaking leverage, Dumont’s best play is an early-2026 return against a former champ. Beat Peña or Pennington, and there’s no waiting  she’s next for Harrison.
