Nurmagomedov Drops In Meta Rankings After Song Knockout

Umar Nurmagomedov and Yan Xiaonan each plummeted in the latest Meta rankings after knockout defeats at UFC Shanghai over the weekend.

Nurmagomedov was stopped by Yadong Song in the Paramount Plus card's main event, while Yan went out cold against Denise Gomes. Both losses cost the former contenders ground in the unofficial rankings, MMA Mania reported Monday.

What The Shanghai Upsets Mean For UFC Title Races

The Meta rankings track fighter momentum independent of official UFC standings. Nurmagomedov entered the bout as a heavy favourite at bantamweight before Song landed the finish. Yan, a former strawweight title challenger, had been climbing back toward a rematch before Gomes derailed those plans.

No word yet on when either fighter might return to action.
