Peek Reveals Two-Year Absence Was Hell

Trevor Peek has not fought in almost two years, and the Tennessee native said the layoff nearly ended his career.

Peek, who faces undefeated British prospect Kurtis Campbell at UFC Paris on Saturday, told Fightwave that back-to-back injuries kept him out of the cage and forced him to question whether he was done. He was slated for UFC Des Moines when he fractured his left leg on UFC premises. A comeback attempt for UFC Nashville fell apart when he tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus.

"It was hell for a little bit," Peek said, per MMA Mania. "I was lost for a little bit, trying to figure out if it was my time to be done fighting or if it was just a test."

Peek Drops to Featherweight for Campbell Fight

The 31-year-old spent his rehab hunting whitetail deer and has since reunited with longtime coach Jeff Powell, who guided him into the UFC. Peek dropped two straight fights at lightweight before his layoff and blamed ONYX coaches in Colorado for trying to rein in the aggression that made him a fan favorite. He moves to featherweight for the first time Saturday.

Campbell has never lost as a professional and should be willing to trade in the center of the Octagon. Peek last competed at UFC Vegas 97 in September 2024, losing a decision to Yanal Ashmouz. UFC Paris takes place at Accor Arena.
