Photo Emerges Of Randy Couture Following Scary Crash

UFC icon Randy Couture was involved in a serious, scary accident yesterday and is currently recovering from some nasty injuries.

According to TMZ, Couture was practicing suffered first- and second-degree burns, trauma injuries and smoke inhalation during a racetrack crash in Kansas City. He had been practicing for his National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) racing debut this year. 

Details on the crash were not yet revealed, but TMZ reported that his car was destroyed.

"Randy Couture, UFC legend and actor, was seriously injured driving a race car on Tuesday (7/8) in anticipation of his NHRA debut sometime this year. Couture suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns, trauma injuries, and smoke inhalation. Randy was airlifted to a local hospital, where he is currently being treated for his many injuries. Thankfully, he is expected to recover. RC's car was destroyed," TMZ's Michael Babcock wrote on X.

Photos shared by the outlet show that one of his arms had to be heavily bandaged, likely from the burns he sustained.

The 62-year-old former MMA fighter, actor and U.S. Army sergeant was reportedly rushed to a burn center after the accident and is still there as of writing. TMZ noted that he "is expected to recover."

A former NCAA All-American wrestler, Couture joined the UFC in the company's early years and quickly emerged as a huge star and a fan favorite. He crossed paths with many of the legends of MMA including Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Vitor Belfort and Brock Lesnar en route to winning a record six championships.

Couture was also the first UFC fighter to win championships in multiple weight classes, winning at both light heavyweight and heavyweight during his career. 

His career spanned several decades, with his final UFC fight coming in 2011 when he was in his late-40s. For his efforts, he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2006 as part of their Pioneer Wing.

Outside of fighting, Couture has appeared in a number of movies and television shows either as himself or as a serious actor.

He has also battled health issues in the past, such as a heart attack in 2019 that he fully recovered from.
