The KSW middleweight division has held it’s own as one of the pound-for-pound best divisions in all of mixed martial arts. Ranging from KSW’s greatest legend, Mamed Khalidov, to such champions as Scott Askham and ONE’s Roberto Soldic, the division has produced top-tier world talent almost from it’s inception. Sitting in the interim middleweight chair, KSW has potentially their next great star waiting in the wings, Piotr Kuberski.
As with many great fighters, Piotr Kuberski credits his wife with his big push into the sport in 2017. “From 2017-2021, I was helped greatly by my wife. I was only working full-time as a security guard at a club. One day she said, ‘Piotrek, either go to the left or to the right, there is no half way with this. I will help you, but you have to take care of training properly. You can’t work nights as a security guard because you won’t properly recharge during that time.”
“We went all in, 120 percent! She gave me money for training, my diet, clothed me, and took care of me. I was only supposed to train. Since then my career has exploded!” Kuberski told MMASucka.
Speaking of his return to the sport in 2018, Piotr Kuberski said it best himself by telling MMASucka, “Like a Phoenix from the ashes, I returned to the MMA track in 2018. I came back after a long back injury, requiring a dozen full body surgeries. His debut in the sport actually came in November 2012 where is was successful via first-round knockout. It would be over four years, March 2017, before he would make his return to action. After scoring a knockout in one minute, it would be another year, April 2018, before Kuberski returned to full-time action.
From April 2018 to May 2023, Piotr Kuberski would go on a five-year run only consisting of one loss and a title reign in FEN (Fight Exclusive Night.) Blazing out of the gates 2-0, Kuberski would suffer his only professional loss in his third bout back, getting caught in a submission to future KSW fighter, Jakub Kamieniarz. The loss did not slow Kuberski down as he would go 4-0 and 1-0 in professional boxing, leading up to his signing with one of Poland’s top MMA organizations, FEN. During that four-win span, Piotr Kuberski would earn knockout victories in three of those four contests.
With a 7-1 record heading into 2021, Kuberski signed with FEN, quickly putting himself in title talks. After earning a knockout victory in his FEN victory, he would go on to win Fight of the Night honors with his decision victory over Krystian Bielski. Two outstanding performances was all it took to find himself in a vacant title bout with Marcin Naruszczka at FEN 40. Earning the championship with a first-round knockout, Kuberski would go on to defend the title two times, both defenses ending with knockouts and Performance of the Night awards.
Sporting a 12-1 record with nine of those victories ending by way of dominant finish, it was time for Piotr Kuberski to make the jump to one of the world’s biggest MMA organizations in that of Poland’s KSW. Kuberski jumped into the deep end of the pool early, taking on a very difficult opponent in Bartosz Lesko at KSW 88. Never one to not impress the fans, Kuberski earned the second-round knockout and set himself up for a matchup against a former champion in Michal Materla at KSW 92, four months later in March 2024. Former KSW king of the middleweights, Materla, was no match for the newcomer, suffering a first round knockout.
Competing on one of KSW’s top cards ever, KSW 100, saw Kuberski given the opportunity to fight his way into a title opportunity in the company’s most storied division. Facing off against former Olympic medalist Damian Janikowski, Kuberski secured his title opportunity with another impressive knockout.
With the middleweight championship in limbo due to a severe knee injury to Pawel Pawlak, an interim title matchup was set for KSW 104 seeing Kuberski face off against company veteran, Tomasz Romanowski. Headlining his first KSW card, Piotr Kuberski continued to live up to his hype, earning a round three knockout and the interim title.
“I am so happy to be champion! I am happy with the increasing number of supporters. I try to show my values in the cage and let it infect others. It means a lot to get messages such as, ‘I’m your fan’ or ‘don’t change who you are.’ I want to be here and champion for as long as possible!”
